New subdivisions have gone in north of the centre while the edges are still acreage, so on any given week we might be building a board-on-board privacy fence for a new build and a pipe fence and drive gate on five acres a mile down the road.

Outside the subdivisions Venus is still acreage, and that is pipe fence, continuous panel, cross-fencing and cattle guards. We build for what is actually going to lean on it — horses and cattle are a different specification from a dog and a lawnmower.
Drive gates get sized and braced properly, with the opener matched to the weight rather than the other way round, and solar power where running a trench to the road is not worth it.

Shade worth having in a bare new yard
